My Boy | Esther Pederson Photography

July 30th, 2009

I don’t post much of my little guy, but it’s not because I don’t want to. Here in our house, it is survival of the fittest among my two, and usually it’s Sienna who wins. Well, that theory also comes into play with photography. Sienna would rather be nonchalant about her smile and be in front of the camera than let Levi have the spotlight. Sound familiar? I know this phase won’t last forever, so I take every moment I can get, even with her sometimes forced smiles. However, on this beautiful evening, I had the priveledge of shooting my little boy. I was trying to practice my backlighting, with encouragement and a gentle nudge from a thread I read on 2Peas. (Well, this was actually BEFORE I read the thread, knowing I wanted to read it!) I will definitely do things a little differently next time, but overall, this one shot really touched me, and as a mom, I will probably cherish it forever! I also wanted to try out a new frame I got from my Jessica Sprague online class. I like it, but hubby says it’s too girly. Whaddya think?

shells | Esther Pederson Photography

July 28th, 2009

My sister found these shells along Salmon Lake’s shore. What a fun find! I, of course, had to take a photo of them against this cool textured picnic table. I’ve used Jess’s warm honey action (FREEBIE!)and a photo frame from Jessica Sprague. Happy Monday!

My family had the opportunity to visit my home town a couple weeks ago. Elim. 280 people, maybe. A beautiful village on the north west coast of Alaska. And best of all, trees!! It was a whirlwind trip and entirely too short, but it was the different laid back atmosphere I needed. I was so happy to see family and friends again and it’s good to know that “home” will always be there to go back to. The only way to get to Elim is by airplane, or boat in the summer and snowmachine in the winter. We usually fly, but since tickets go for $300/person round trip these days (this is 90 miles one way people!), we decided to boat there instead. It was my first time boating from Nome to Elim, and I loved every minute of it. Thanks to my sister and brother-in-law for letting us hop in! When I got there, I turned into my old self again, not the photographer self. Surprising, since I was so excited to take pictures of everything I saw. However, I did take a few. I guess I was just excited to be home and wanted to experience it first hand instead of behind the camera. Here’s a glimpse into what we saw and did over the 9 days in my home town. Warning: Large post!!

outdoor randoms | Esther Pederson Photography

July 2nd, 2009

We’ve been out a LOT lately, and thank God for nice sunny weather the last couple of days. It has been beautiful! We find ourselves taking walks close to 11pm on days like these. The sun is out in full force all night long, and I can’t get enough of it! We’ve been to the beach, out flower hunting, and well….I’ll let the photos tell the story. We are leaving town tomorrow, and I won’t have blog access for a few days, but stay tuned because when I get back, I will have a plethora of wonderful photos to share. I will try not to disappoint! Have a wonderful 4th everyone.
