We went out to camp the other day. It was a nice snowmachine ride. The days are getting longer, and the weather has been so sunny and beautiful! Its almost a crime not to take advantage of these awesome days. After a yummy lunch my sister flew the kite while the kids watched from the window. It was so cute. I’m looking forward to visiting again when the road is open and we can drive out with the car. It will be on those days where 11:00pm feels like 6:00 pm. I love summers in Alaska!! I also want to thank my fellow photographer friend, Kim Bear for these awesome circle brushes I used in my background. I love them!

March 30, 2010Hilary…2010 senior | Esther Pederson Photography
March 27, 2010Spring is springing and all the high school seniors are coming out of hibernation! Yep, it’s that time of year again. Graduation is upon us, and I get the joy of photographing some awesome seniors in the coming weeks. Hilary was my first of the spring, and I could not stop gushing over how beautiful she looked. We hit up some cool locations and to my delight Hil was up for anything. A couple of her friends tagged along so we shared ideas and laughed together and just had a fun evening being girls. These are just a few of…..oh maybe 500 images I took. lol. I could not stop snapping because there were a million ideas running through my head and the smiles were never ending. Because of that I have made my job harder of narrowing down a few proofs, but its totally worth it! I hope you love what you see and I CANNOT wait to show you the rest Hilary! Enjoy the final weeks of your senior year and the best of luck with whatever the future brings you! We’ll definetely miss seeing you on the basketball court next year. <3

just looking | Esther Pederson Photography
March 22, 2010So, this was just one of a handful of shots I took this week. Literally, I think I took maybe 20 shots this whole week. It was crazy busy working the craft fair, playing basketball and trying to squeeze in time in between to see my family. I am bound and determined to get out this week and shoot even though the excitement of Iditarod has simmered down. I miss my camera!
ballad of the blue moon | Esther Pederson Photography
March 19, 2010So it’s been a busy week, and I haven’t been able to post much or take any new photos for that matter. I’ve been stuck inside, which just absolutely stinks this time of year. It’s Iditarod season, and the town of Nome has boomed and is bubbling with activity and excitement. We have people from all walks of life and who come from all over the world. Meanwhile, I am inside sitting at a craft table, which isn’t so bad, but when I think about all the activity that is happening outside of those four walls it really makes me want get out and take some photos and enjoy the nice weather! Especially since our temps finally made it into the double digits (on the positive side this time!). I wanted to post this one that was taken on New Years Eve, when the blue moon occured. I entered this photo into the Iditarod Art Show and am happy to say that it took first place in the photography division! My favorite part of the photo? The howling dog, Storm. I think that’s what made the photo so special! A special thanks to Stephanie for even making this photo possible, because these are her lovely dogs. I also want to encourage all photographers or photo enthusiasts to enter their stuff next year! It’s always fun to see other people’s work and see the world through someone else’s eyes.
race day | Esther Pederson Photography
March 14, 2010So, -28 degrees doesn’t exactly equal ideal shooting conditions. At least for me. I belong somewhere warm, like Kauai.
But today was just that. -28 degrees. It was cold, but the sun was shining, and the air was filled with excitement. Today was race day. The Nome-Golovin snowmachine race. A 200 mile fast and exhilerating race for those seeking thrill and maybe some extra cash for their pockets. The race is open to both men and women, and a few of my girlfriends were in the race as well. #115 is a fellow photographer, Katie O’Connor so I hope you like this fierce photo of yourself Katie!! It was fun to cheer everyone on. It was a great day overall, with no major wrecks or injuries. Plus I got to shoot something I don’t normally shoot, and my camera performed like a champ in those frigid temps. Here are the results from the race. 2010 Nome-Golovin Snowmachine Race Results

cute? yes. innocent? no. | Esther Pederson Photography
March 12, 2010While I was checking my email today, I heard something I don’t usually hear in our house. Silence. Oh no, where’s Levi and what’s he getting into this time? He’s either playing in the bathroom sink, eating syrup on the kitchen floor, or pulling wipes out of the wipe container. Seriously, he went for a record 50 some wipes one time before someone even noticed. Well, I jumped off the computer and when I walked out of the office, I saw this little guy standing on the dining room table checking out my cranberry garland on the chandelier. It could have been much worse I thought…so instead of scolding him, I quick grabbed the camera and snapped this. Another day, another memory.
longing for summer | Esther Pederson Photography
March 10, 2010I’m looking through my folders of photos from the last year trying to find something inspiring to enter into our local art show next week. I found this photo of last summer and it just made me long for summer. I think both Larry and I are just waiting until we can hit the dirt roads again. We love to drive in the summer, and this is one place we pass through a lot on our way to camp. This is Solomon. It’s flat, it doesn’t have trees. But it is on the ocean, there are birds everywhere on the thousands of lakes and the land is rich with berries. It’s a little bit of paradise for a scant few here in Alaska.
bath time | Esther Pederson Photography
March 9, 2010Yes, bath time is pretty much a favorite in our household. The kids usually take showers with us just to save time during the day (because bath time not only involves bath time, but wiping up the floor time, making sure Levi doesn’t drink the water time, breaking up splash fights time, etc), but sometimes they are lucky enough to score a bath! HA! It’s almost like a treat to them. So, we had a little fun and I got to take some photos. I’ve been wanting to practice my lifestyle photography anyway so what better time than this. I also wanted to bust out my flash just to see if it still worked. I promise to get the flash thing down by next winter at least. Thank goodness for the flash class I will be taking in a couple weeks. It’s nice to see a smile on the little guy’s face again. And who can resist the old bubble beard?
2 edits, 1 photo | Esther Pederson Photography
March 8, 2010I played a little with this photo last night. First I did my standard processing (on the right), then I thought it would be fun to do a funky edit with some new actions I got. I think I actually prefer the softer hazy edit on the left. What do you think? This photo was taken on our last day in Hawaii. Sienna and I got lei’s from Daddy for Valentines Day, and she sported this thing till the flowers were wilty and falling off. It was so cute! I love this photo too..everything about it is perfect in my mind. The location of course was to die for, the smile on her face says she is happy, and our last day in Hawaii at the best beach ever! What good memories to look back on! Anyway, tell me which you prefer, and I’ll tell you where you can snag these actions for free so you can play too.
This last one is pretty special too. Sienna and me on Valentines Day, overlooking the Wailua River. {love!}

fresh | Esther Pederson Photography
March 6, 2010Most of the fruits we ate in Hawaii were locally grown. They were fresh, juicy, unique and delicious. There was plenty of opportunity to support the locals, as there are markets all over the island selling produce. Mmmm! For those that said a prayer for my little guy, THANK YOU! I really appreciated all them, as he is doing much better. He is now at 100% (he normally runs at 110%)
So, just one more day I think, and he’ll be normal again. Time to be on high alert again………oy!
