So, bear with me as I infuse some flowermania into your veins. I love our tiny tundra and mountainside flowers. They are so unexpected and so beautiful. So many varieties. I am amazed everytime I go out, it seems like I see a new flower that I hadn’t yet discovered. We have been out at camp the last few weekends, and everytime I go out, I of course lug my camera from place to place, excited to see what I can capture. Here’s a few I found. The last photo I took on our way to Council. We usually see a herd of musk-ox somewhere along the way, most often too far away to get a decent photograph. Well, this weekend, they posed so nicely right in front of the most beautiful backdrop! Thank you large beasts! :D

I met up with this family last night for a photo session. The weather was perfect, the swarms of mosquitos were out in full force, and of course this family was full of life. Little Brandon reminded me a lot of my own son, full of energy and constantly on the move! :) It was fun to watch them interact with each other. They seemed so comfortable with one another, and photographing them was like documenting their story, rather than taking posed portraits. It was fabulous! Thank you all so much for your patience with me, Eva and Miah. Enjoy your sneak peak!

“Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.”

When I look back on my childhood, all I can see is the good memories I had with my family and friends. When not with my blood family, I was always with my friends. My friends became my family. I still have a few people out there I call “Mom” and “Dad” who I am not even related to. This is the impact my friends had on my life. They left footprints on my heart. When I learned that Larry’s childhood friend and his wife were expecting a girl around the same time as us over three years ago, I knew our girls would become instant friends. And when we moved to Nome and became their neighbors I knew that would seal the deal if nothing else did. :) These last few weeks they have almost been inseparable. It’s sweet to watch them play, pretend, and grow up together. A few weeks ago Mecca’s dad accepted a job in Sitka, 1000 miles away. It was hard to swallow the fact, for me, that the girls wouldn’t go to school together, or have sleep overs, or be teammates in sports. But, I hope in the end, regardless of the time that passes, that they will find their way back to each other and pick up on that friendship they began at birth. We’ll miss you Goldsberry’s!

I just love the little wildflowers that grow along our hill sides in the summertime. They are full of color and have such a wonderful smell. There are surprisingly so many varieties and shapes and most are so vibrant. They are also hearty to withstand our summer winds and sometimes cold overnight temperatures. It’s a welcome burst of cheer after the long snowy winters.

Well, we were looking for greens. I’m not sure what this little one was trying to do. Escaping through the bushes and on the lookout for hungry bears I suppose. It’s the perfect photo to describe Levi’s personality. Always on the go-go, constantly moving and doing something. He’s just not that into the portrait type stuff. :)

If the cuteness of their fans have anything to do with their success, the Los Angeles Lakers will have this championship in a bag! Here’s our little Laker fan, sporting her stuff. This one is sure to make her daddy proud! :D Oh, and my second attempt at OCF lighting. This time with a much bigger light source, “big mama”. I still have some practicing to do, but I think I’m going to like this setup as an alternative source for shoots. Happy championship watching everyone. What a great one so far!!

We were out of town over the Memorial Day weekend (although I think we missed the summer in Nome while we were gone!). I didn’t take many shots, but that was ok. I just enjoyed myself and didn’t worry much about getting “the shot”. We were in Fairbanks for a couple days, then flew down to Anchorage for the rest of the weekend. Fairbanks was hot by our standards (82 degrees!) and the kids enjoyed our cottage by the river. They played in the water as much as they could, and managed to get almost all their clothes either muddy or wet. Sounds like fun to me!
