My heart is happy! Every time a senior calls or emails me to book a session, life is good. Diana and I got together on the perfect evening. The light was magical, the wind light, and the locations beautiful. I wish I could share them all here now, but I will save some goodness for your gallery Diana! Enjoy your sneak peak. I had an awesome time capturing your senior images, which are nothing less than striking. Talk soon!

Well, as the years go on, my seniors just get more beautiful and fun! Seriously, I don’t think I ever have this much fun on any other type of session. Girls being girls, goofing off, laughing, loving every minute! Miranda was full of energy, and was a complete natural. Of course, being this gorgeous doesn’t hurt either! Thanks for booking with me Miranda, your images turned out flawless. Have a wonderful year ahead and see you in May!

“In a landscape as dramatic as its stories, Alaska Native people face staggering suicide rates, yet remain determined to heal & thrive! Historically Alaska Native peoples lived solely from the lands and waters of the far north; it is that relationship between land, water and people that has culturally defined the first peoples of Alaska. Today Alaska Natives face many challenges in a world dominated by differing values. Rapid lifestyle changes, forced assimilation, and historical traumas have led to severed connections to the land and waters; these struggles threaten the loss of traditional values that have sustained Alaska Native Peoples for millennium.” via Kickstarter.com |

My cousin, Marsh Chamberlain, has ventured on a journey, which he has put his heart and soul into. He is on a journey to film a documentary about suicide in Alaska. A very touching documentary which most Alaskans, unfortunately, have been affected by. I am proud of his journey, and his willingness and heart to help our people heal. Thank you Marsh for your dedication, hard work and persistence to finish this project. I am proud of our people for opening up to you as well. Please consider a donation today, by clicking on the ‘Kickstarter’ link at the bottom of this post.

Brandi…senior 2013 | Esther Pederson PhotographyJuly 31st, 2012Senior sessions, hands down. These are my favorite favorite! Beautiful willing models who know how to work it. I love how much fun we have, and both not really wanting it to end! And I love it when the weather just seems to work out perfectly. Nome weather is constantly changing, and is usually different from day to day. Brandi was only in town for a short while, and the weather cooperated beautifully for us. Well, what else can I say…Brandi is blessed with natural beauty and has a sweet, fun personality. Best wishes in your senior year at Service High Brandi! Thank you for choosing me for your portrait experience, you totally rocked it!! |

Jessica & Jesse (and Jeter too!) | Esther Pederson PhotographyJuly 23rd, 2012What a beautiful couple! I loved this shoot for many reasons. I love maternity sessions, especially when Dad is involved and willing. The weather was amazing! And the couple brought along their fabulous dog- Jeter! While still young, he was very well behaved and seemed to enjoy the session as well. He was a typical 2 year old, running around while Mom and Dad got their photos done, and when it was his turn to be involved, he was more than willing to pose! haha. What a cutie. I also loved this session because both Jess and Jesse put a lot of effort into the shoot. They were comfortable in front of the camera, so natural and made my job very easy. This is definetely the case of “you get out what you put in”…they have a lot of amazing images to choose from. Their baby is already blessed to have such loving and fun parents. Not to mention gorgeous. I remember the excitement and anticipation when I was carrying my first child, and I feel honored to capture those same special moments for these two before their sweetie is born. Enjoy guys and thank you so much for being patient for this reveal! I hope it was worth the wait. xoxo |

please pardon my mess!July 20th, 2012Please pardon my dust while I update my blog. Things probably won’t look quite right for about a week or so, until I can figure this technology stuff out! Thanks for being patient. |
McKenzie & Denny | Esther Pederson PhotographyJuly 18th, 2012Sooo, it has been a whirlwind of a couple weeks. Between house guests, and super sunny weather, and birthday parties and camp trips, and photo sessions, my computer decided to go kaput on me. Ahh, yes, right in the middle of a memory card download! Eek, thank goodness all my treasures are safe. BUT, it has been a hectic couple weeks, as I was pulling my hair out knowing I was getting further and further behind in my editing and orders. But, I’m back, and that means the blog will start to be a little more active again and galleries will finally be opened up for my clients! YAY! I met up with these two, or should I say three (Bo counts right?) and just as luck would have it, the weather cleared up just when we needed it to. I was crossing my fingers, because we really didn’t have any chance to re-schedule as these two love birds have since moved away. And it was sort of bittersweet for me too, because I’ve photographed Kenzie before, so this was a fun way to say goodbye, for now. We had our fun, and I want to thank Denny especially for playing along with all of the ideas, and also a good scratch on the ears for Bo, who is definetely a crazy two year old dog! haha. I had a lot of fun guys. Best of wishes for your future together in your new life! See you again soon I hope. |

the Karmuns | Esther Pederson PhotographyJuly 5th, 2012It’s not everyday that I get this opportunity. The Karmun’s daughter messaged me a few weeks back and asked if I was available to do a photo shoot of their parents. Well even if I wasn’t available, I would have made room in my schedule for them. What a joy, honor and treat to photograph such a beautiful special couple. Dan and Ethel are amazing role models in our community, even attending high school basketball games to support our youth! At first I was nervous at the thought of photographing them. They would probably think I was a crazy woman carrying around a camera. |

But I did not feel that way at all. They were so fun and easy to work with and I loved how they interacted with each other. Their genuine love for each other is so evident. Just precious. Thank you Judy for this evening! And a big thank you to Dan and Ethel for participating!

joni + robert | Esther Pederson PhotographyJune 29th, 2012What an amazing session, it took me way too long to weed through the photos just to pick some for the blog. Man, what a joyful little boy, and such a sweet sweet Mom. Capturing these two together was just like watching them through a secret window into their life. Their laughter, their hugs, their joy. I will let the photos speak, enjoy Joni! I truly had a wonderful time with you both. Nome will miss you. |

summer | Esther Pederson PhotographyJune 4th, 2012My favorite season is finally here. Life springs up wherever you look. Baby animals are being born, eggs are being laid and hatching, the tundra is slowing changing from brown to green, the ice has broken free from the rivers and ocean, and flowers are blooming. The sun shines almost 24 hours a day and it almost makes me forget how harsh, cold, and dark our winters are. This is why we live here. It truly is a special place, a beautiful and peaceful and wild place. |
